This concludes another
successful year The MCC’s Health and Wellness Expo, in partnership with PHAC;
the Public Health Agency of Canada. On Thursday October 19th, adult ESL
students from Windsor – Essex were bussed to the 2023 MCC Health and Wellness
Expo, taking place at Ciociaro Club in Windsor.
Over 1000 students were on
hand to learn about Health and Wellness services from over 40 community
agencies from Windsor – Essex. All facets of personal wellness – including
nutrition, sports and fitness, mental health, treatment, community services and
more were represented.
The day-long Expo, which
was founded in 2002, offered refugees, newcomers, immigrant and members of
ethno-cultural communities free transportation and admission to the event in
hopes of improving their awareness of the physical and mental health services
available. Volunteers from The MCC were on hand to act as interpreters for all
those who attended, to help interact with local vendors.
This year’s expo was
sponsored by the Public Health Agency of Canada, highlighting the significance
of the event for the community. This collaborative effort between the MCC and
various local agencies aims to ensure that newcomers are well-informed about
the resources available to them and are able to make informed decisions about
their health and wellness needs.
Overall, the Wellness Expo
serves as a crucial platform for offering support, information, and resources
to recent newcomers, helping them integrate into the community and promoting
their overall well-being.
