The Language Training Program is English language training for newcomers to Canada. We offer Literacy (for students with reading\/writing challenges in their own language) as well as CLB Levels 1 through 8 classes, Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n

Care for Newcomer Children childcare support is available to eligible participants for their children aged 6 months to 5 years, though space may be limited.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Language Training Program helps students learn basic to advanced language skills that will be useful in their everyday lives. For instance, they can learn: the alphabet and numeric systems; how to ask for directions; how to talk to their child\u00b4s teacher or their own teacher; how to explain their health concerns to the doctor, make an appointment; learn grammar instruction, how to prepare for post-secondary education and the Canadian work culture, TOEFL preparation, employment readiness as well as preparation for Citizenship.<\/p>\n

How long does it take to complete the Language Training Program?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The program offers continuous enrolment through\u00a0three semesters per year, and clients progress at their own pace using the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and the Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) binders.<\/p>\n

Language Training Program classes are held at the MCC East End Office located at:<\/p>\n

Currently we offer classes Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Reading and Writing) or 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Listening and Speaking).<\/p>\n

How do I enrol in the\u00a0Language Training\u00a0Program classes?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To be eligible for this program you must be 18 years and older and must be a Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee, on a special Minister\u00b4s Permit or possess an eligibility letter for Permanent Residence from CIC\/IRCC. All clients must have taken the CLBA Assessment in order to attend the Language Classes program at the Language Assessment and Resource Centre (LARC) located at 1410 Ouellette Avenue, Windsor. You may call directly for an assessment appointment at 519-253-2724 or choose to book through one of our Orientation staff by contacting our office for an appointment at 519-255-1127 ext. 201 or visiting us at our East End location stated above.<\/p>\n

The Language Training Program\u00a0is valuable because it helps newcomers to settle and integrate into their new community. It helps to enhance the newcomer\u00b4s communication skills, an invaluable asset learned both in the classroom and in the Language Training computer lab. It provides regular instruction so that newcomers can be effectively familiarized with their new Canadian society.\u00a0<\/p>\n
